About Us & Our Mission

A bit about us

Camp Chai is a Jewish overnight camp located in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, offering boys an unforgettable summer filled with friendship, adventure, and meaningful Jewish experiences.

Hosted on the scenic grounds of Camp Gan Israel Toronto, campers enjoy an immersive environment where they can explore the outdoors, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of Jewish identity and pride.

Camp Chai was originally founded in 2018 by the Jewish North York Centre as a day camp with overnight programming. In 2024, the program evolved and relaunched as Camp Chai, expanding its vision to serve a broader community of Jewish youth. In 2025, Camp Chai partnered with Chabad of Southern Ontario and Camp Gan Israel Toronto to host the program at their expansive campgrounds in Haliburton, approximately 2.5 hours from Toronto. Today, Camp Chai proudly welcomes Jewish boys from across Ontario and beyond.

At Camp Chai, we bring out the best in each child. Our mission is to create a fun and exciting environment where boys can make new friends, enjoy their summer, and feel proud to be Jewish. Through sports, outdoor adventures, creative activities, trips, and a meaningful Shabbat experience, campers develop lasting friendships while strengthening their connection to Jewish identity and values.

Camp Chai is known for its warm, energetic, and supportive atmosphere where every camper feels valued and included. Our dedicated staff work to create a culture of friendship, brotherhood, and personal growth while ensuring every camper has a safe and exciting summer experience. We want every camper to leave inspired – with unforgettable memories and a lifelong sense of Jewish pride.

Our Inspiration

The Lubavitcher Rebbe,
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson

The Rebbe envisioned a warm, welcoming summer camp that integrated learning with fun – a place where children could enjoy sports and artistic activities while experiencing the richness and excitement of their Jewish heritage. The Rebbe extolled the virtues of overnight camp and recognized the value of imbuing youth with a “high octane” 24/7 energy boost that will remain for a lifetime.
